With her last album CARELESS LOVE, it was easy to compare Madeleine Peyroux to Billie Holiday, as she shared some of Holiday's vocal characteristics. That changes on HALF THE PERFECT WORLD. There still are echoes of Holiday is Peyroux's 30's jazz-singer purr, but she has done more to define herself this time around.
Her voice is more sensual and smooth, with an edge of playfulness that was missing from her former album. Producer Larry Klein is back on board (along with Steely Dan's Walter Becker) to wrap Peyroux's vocals into a swath of vintage jazz with a bluesy touch. Peyroux makes better use of her songwriting talents this time out as well, with four original cuts, including the sublime "I'm All Right." Now available @ VortexGifts.com
